On April 3, 2003, I watched a network broadcast about the children of U.S. service members lost in the war in Iraq and realized that these children had to shoulder the heaviest burden of the war. The pressing need for private action to provide for these children became obvious.
The issue is not political. Those passionately in favor of and passionately opposed to the war can both agree that the price of freedom and the costs of war should not be borne primarily by the innocent children of our service men and women. I urge you to support the Fallen Heroes Last Wish Foundation here in Santa Barbara, and to encourage other companies, organizations, and friends to support this important effort.
An initial $100,000 donation by Dan O’Dowd, CEO of Green Hills Software, Inc., established the Fallen Heroes Last Wish Foundation. Mr. O’Dowd will match all contributions until the first $500,000 is raised. The target for local fundraising efforts is to provide $5,000 for every minor child of a U.S. service member that died during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Mr. O’Dowd is personally financing all Foundation operating expenses.
Dan O’Dowd founded Green Hills Software in 1982, acting as President and Chief Executive Officer since its inception.
